Perforated Metal for
Industrial Acoustics & Noise Control
Syr-Tech manufactures custom perforated metal components for industrial acoustic enclosures, sound-absorbing panels, duct silencers, ventilation baffles, acoustic louvers, and related noise-control systems.

Our capabilities include perforated coils, sheets, blanks, and select roll-formed components manufactured to OEM drawings and repeat-production requirements.

Perforated metal plays an important role in many absorptive acoustic systems by allowing sound energy to reach acoustic media while helping protect and retain insulation or sound-absorbing material.

Airflow, Appearance & Performance
HVAC air-distribution products must do more than simply move air. Manufacturers must balance airflow capacity, pressure drop, acoustic performance, durability, and architectural appearance within a single product.

Perforated metal plays a critical role in achieving that balance.
From diffuser faces and return grilles to filter grilles and acoustic panels, perforated metal is used throughout modern air-distribution systems to support airflow while maintaining the clean, finished appearance expected in commercial, institutional, healthcare, and mission-critical environments.

Syr-Tech manufactures custom perforated metal products used in HVAC air-distribution applications where performance, consistency, and repeatable manufacturing quality matter.

Perforated Metal Components
for Industrial Noise-Control Systems

Industrial acoustic systems are commonly designed around a combination of solid barriers, absorptive media, airflow pathways, and perforated interior surfaces.

In many of these assemblies, the perforated metal is positioned between the sound source or airflow stream and the acoustic media behind it. The openings allow sound energy to pass through the metal surface and reach fiberglass, mineral wool, or other absorptive materials while the perforated sheet helps protect and retain that media.

Syr-Tech manufactures the perforated metal portion of these assemblies for OEMs and industrial manufacturers that perform the downstream acoustic design, insulation, fabrication, welding, coating, assembly, and performance validation.
Our focus is repeatable, production-ready perforated components built to customer specifications.

Industrial Acoustic Applications

Industrial Machinery Acoustic Enclosures
Industrial machinery enclosures are used around presses, compressors, grinders, blowers, pumps, test equipment, and other noise-generating machinery.

Many enclosure systems use a solid outer skin, sound-absorbing media, and perforated interior facings or surfaces, facing the noise source.

Acoustic Panels & Barrier Systems
Absorptive acoustic panels commonly use perforated metal as the exposed surface over fiberglass, mineral wool, or other sound-absorbing media.

These panels may be incorporated into industrial enclosures, modular barrier systems, equipment rooms, walls, plenums, and other noise-control structures.

Rectangular Duct Silencers & Splitters
Rectangular duct silencers are used to reduce noise traveling through HVAC and industrial ventilation systems while allowing air to continue moving through the duct system.

These silencers commonly contain internal acoustic splitters or baffles with perforated surfaces surrounding sound-absorbing media.
Acoustic Louvers & Ventilation Baffles

Acoustic louvers allow ventilation air to move through an opening while helping reduce the transmission of equipment and mechanical noise.

Perforated metal is commonly used along acoustically exposed surfaces of louver blades, baffles, and other airflow components containing absorptive media.
Fan Silencer Components

Axial and centrifugal fan silencers are used at fan inlets and discharges to reduce airborne fan noise while maintaining required airflow.

Depending on the design, perforated metal may be incorporated into cylindrical liners, center-body sections, internal baffles, and other acoustically exposed surfaces.
Perforated metal serves several important functions within industrial noise-control assemblies.
Why Perforated Metal Is Used in Acoustic Applications
The perforated surface allows sound energy to pass through the metal and interact with the acoustic media behind it rather than reflecting entirely from a solid surface.
Acoustic Transparency
Acoustic Media Protection
Perforated liners and facings help protect fiberglass, mineral wool, and other sound-absorbing materials from impact, handling, airflow erosion, and routine equipment service.
In louvers, ventilation baffles, duct silencers, and fan silencers, perforated surfaces allow acoustic treatment to be incorporated directly into an airflow path.
Airflow Integration
Component Structure
Perforated skins can also help retain acoustic media and form part of the physical construction of double-wall panels, baffles, splitters, and enclosure liners.
Final acoustic performance depends on the complete system—including media, geometry, airflow, casing construction, installation, and overall design. Syr-Tech manufactures perforated components to OEM drawings rather than designing or certifying complete acoustic systems.
Common materials may include:
-
Galvanized steel
-
Cold rolled steel
-
Stainless steel
-
Aluminum
-
Pre-finished or coated metals
Materials, Gauges & Perforation Patterns
Industrial acoustic components are manufactured in a wide range of specifications depending on airflow, acoustic design, corrosion exposure, component geometry, and OEM requirements.
Light-gauge perforated metal is commonly used in acoustic enclosure, panel, louver, and silencer applications. Gauges such as 22 and 26 gauge galvanized steel fall within Syr-Tech’s typical 14–28 gauge production range.

Small round-hole patterns are common in absorptive acoustic facings. One common example is approximately 3/32" round holes on 3/16" staggered centers, producing roughly 23% open area.

Final hole size, pattern, pitch, open area, margins, gauge, and tolerances should be determined by the OEM design and customer drawing.
Syr-Tech Manufacturing Capabilities for Acoustic Components

Additional Industrial Acoustic Applications
Perforated metal may also be used in a variety of industrial noise-control and sound-attenuation systems beyond the primary applications shown above.
Additional applications may include:
-
Generator and equipment enclosures
-
Ventilation plenums
-
Acoustic baffles and splitter assemblies
